Become a member

For a suggested annual donation of £20 (plus a pay-what-you-can option) you can access all of our tools with no extra costs. Becoming a member – whether you are a gardener, new homeowner, artist or trades worker – will provide you with the tools you need to realise your ideas! It also saves you money, space, reduces waste, and helps us to build a more ecological and fairer community.

Once you have signed up, either online or in person, you can access our online inventory, reserve tools, pick up from the depot and return following week. We are open every Saturday, 11am-1pm at Civic House.

Volunteer with us

Interested in contributing to the development of GTL?

There are many ways to get involved with the tool library and help shape its future and impact. You don’t need to know much about tools, you just need to be willing to commit some of your time. Our collective of volunteers meet regularly to discuss project ideas and to manage the library – including tasks such as lending, cataloguing and maintaining tools and promoting GTL. If you’re interested in joining the voluntary collective, please fill out the form below and we’ll get back in touch as soon as we can.

Tool donation

Like most tool libraries throughout the world, instead of buying new and expensive tools, we are committed to reducing waste by collecting unused or underused tools you might have gathering dust in your cupboards, attics or garages.

We also collect donations from institutions or organisations that may be replenishing equipment or have surplus tools. Get in touch if you’re interested in partnering with us.

Our practical classes aim to bring people together to learn basic carpentry and home improvement skills. We also host talks that explore the themes of sharing, community resilience and empowerment through making. Go to our events page to see what’s coming up or to look at our previous programme.
