Tools for Community

Sharing tools. Sharing skills. Sharing community

Building community is at the core of what we do at Glasgow Tool Library.

We offer a range of volunteering opportunities and activities that bring people together to build new relationships, gain confidence and develop or share skills in repair, library management, tool knowledge, and marketing. We hold regular weekly activity as well as events such as Community Builds, Volunteer Assemblies, quarterly training and social events.

When you volunteer with Glasgow Tool Library you can join one (or more) of our volunteer teams: Library Team, Maintenance Team or Marketing Team. Find out more below.

Join Our Board and Help Make Glasgow a Fairer and More Sustainable City!

GTL's vision is to make Glasgow a sustainable, equitable and resilient city by providing access to equipment, skills and a supportive community.

Founded in 2018, our Firhill based library now has almost 900 active members, who are supported by 50 volunteers managing over 1,000 items, including power tools, gardening equipment, audio visual, outdoor gear, and more!

We have ambitious plans  for the future - including moving into larger premises, expanding our library with a wider range of equipment, delivering more skills and educational workshops, and community development and outreach work.

To help us finalise and implement our strategies for growth we are seeking  Trustees to join our Board of Director to help push us to the next phase of our development to increase our impact.

We are looking for people who have expertise in the third  sector and have specific skills in:

  • Business planning and funding

  • Property acquisition

  • Marketing and campaigning

  • Organisational development

A priority is someone who has the time to dedicate to our ambitious aims and wants to be a driving force in achieving our goals.

GTL is committed to a diverse and inclusive Board of Trustees and would especially welcome new Trustees who live in Firhill or neighbouring wards.

You will be able to dedicate several hours each week to individual tasks, and be free to attend virtual bi-monthly Board Meetings, and GTL community events.

You'll join a team passionate about a sharing economy and community-led change, and of course gain all the personal and societal benefits that come with volunteering your time and skills to such a worthwhile cause

If you are interested or want to apply, please send a CV and expression of interest to
