The Glasgow Canal Festival is North Glasgow’s most exciting annual festival, with a packed programme of high-quality arts, heritage, environmental and watersports activities. The FREE festival takes place along the banks of the iconic Forth & Clyde Canal.
All activities 10.30am-6pm unless otherwise specified.
Families
The Whirlybird family performances. £4/£3
Scottish Opera – Puffy McPuffer and the Crabbit Canals – 3 performances. £4/£2
Play pools – A series of paddling pools with fun water activities for under 1 – 6 year olds. Free.
Face Painting – Face painting for families. Free. 11am-5pm
Storytelling Tent with Village Storytelling – Daniel Serridge will create special canal stories and tell others from his catalogue. Free. 11am-5pm
The Tallest with Mamoru Iriguchi. A chance to create a very tall person using a specially designed cloak. Free.
Heritage & Environment
Canal History Handling Exhibition with Glasgow Life – Handling exhibition of historical canal-focused objects. Free. 11am-3pm.
Citizen Science Workshops – Fascinating canal-dipping sessions – environmental experts will be on-hand. Free
Canal Heritage Images Exhibition – Exploring Scottish Canals fascinating collection, oral histories and prints of photographs and maps. Free
Arts and All
Music from foot tapping Celtic Music Radio.
Photography, crafts, treasure hunt and exhibits of costumes and props at Rockvilla. Free.
Scottish Piping Centre live demonstration – Try out a practice chanter, then hear from a real piper! Free. 12pm-5pm.
Artist Workshop with Glasgow Sculpture Studios – Create an arts history of the local canal map. Free
Pedal-Powered Cinema with Sustrans. The amazing pedal-powered cinema will show a range of short films. Free
Pulpworks – Pulpworks is a fun DIY making space, investigating collective experiences of playing and making in the surrounding environment. Free
On the Water
Forth & Clyde Canal Society – Canal Boat Tours – 12 historic tours departing throughout the day. £3/£1.50.
Canoe Taster Sessions with Pinkston Watersports £2.50 per go.
Stand Up Paddleboard Taster Sessions with SUP Scotland £10 per go.
Dragon Boat Racing with Race the Dragon. Exciting dragon boats racing along the canal. From £75 per team.
Plus plenty of community, charity and food stalls including Ricefield Chinese Craft, Flux Studio and RSPB Scotland.
