How GTL works

Using the tool library is simple.

Once you have signed up, you can access our online database, check-out the tool you would like to borrow, pick it up from our depot and return it the following week.

Our annual membership is available via a suggest £20 donation, or you can opt to pay-what-you-can. No one will be turned away from the library for lack of funds.

You are also welcome to use your annual membership fee to help support the library by donating more than the suggested £20.

All of the funds raised by membership fees go back into supporting the tool library service, volunteer programme and community events.

The tool library depot is currently closed due to COVID-19 – we aim to be open again soon, on Saturdays from 11am-1pm.

In the meantime, you can still sign up for a membership or scroll down to browse our inventory.

Sign up FAQS

  • Sign up online

You can sign up online using this form here. Then, check your email to confirm your details. You can then use your online account to browse and reserve tools via our inventory page here.

  • Activate your membership

Before you can borrow tools, you must come in to the library depot to have your account verified by a tool librarian. To do this, pop in when we’re open with an official photo ID (passport, driving licence) and sign our user agreement policies.

  • Sign up in person

You can also complete the whole sign up process in person! Just come along when we’re open with your photo ID. Remember, if you don’t have an official ID, let us know and we can help you to sign up another way.

  • Reserve or renew tools

Once you’ve signed up, you can use your online account to reserve or renew the tools you’ve already booked out. The maximum lending time is 2 weeks.
